Abstract

This round table discussion gathers eminent external experts to discuss the themes touched upon during the sessions of the ELITES project. They will offer their views on the questions of legitimisation and symbolic capital of the elites in Scandinavia, East-Central Europe, and other peripheries vis-à-vis core European regions. The invited scholars will also discuss the comparative and conceptual frameworks for studying elites on the borders of Europe during the High Middle Ages in general.

Participants include Piotr Górecki (University of California, Riverside), Bjørn Poulsen (Aarhus Universitet), and Alice Taylor (King's College London).
