Abstract | This is the first of three sessions. The papers concentrate on the study of the Bible. The first paper focuses on commented editions, i.e. manuscripts containing the Bible framed by a pre-established set of annotations, and on the reasons for their remarkable spread in Carolingian East Francia. The second paper analyses the antecedents to Carolingian commented editions by investigating features of Greek catena-commentaries, which aimed not only at collecting knowledge. The third paper investigates the features of Carolingian exegesis on the End Times in the frame of the new educational ambitions. It concentrates on East Frankish output. |
