Abstract | This session is dedicated to the sensory approach of Marian devotion - the sight - and its function in defending theological doctrines reflected in Marian pregnancy representations or in the representations of the early life of Mary (Presentation to the Temple). Furthermore, it highlights a variety of artistic networks and their relation to representations of the Visitation. The session ends (as a wrap up of all the 3 sessions) with the interpretation of some key images present in Bernard of Clairvaux's In laudibus Virginis Matris, which allow to highlight how the harmonious coexistence of the senses and the spirit in Mary leads her to the fullness of grace. |
