Abstract

The third of the sessions on the materiality of manuscripts explores networks of transmission of medieval texts in manuscripts. Applying tools of social network analysis, Stutzmann compares the texts and their distribution across different manuscripts and institutions to uncover Cistercian collection development policies. Using digital tools and methods, Kapitan analyses physical features of manuscripts preserving Old Norse texts in order to understand their production context and chronology. Schmidt demonstrates the applicability of digital methods to explorations of the patristic sermon collections. Focusing on different layers of manuscripts, Odstrčilík will discuss possibilities of visualising manuscripts' structure and contents in a diachronic perspective.
