Abstract

Medieval people met on their real and imaginative travels as well foreign men and women as strange landscape, found strange plants and animals. The perception of these beings was highly influenced by Christian European knowledge and thinking. This included prejudice on the one hand and extraordinary great admiration for the marvellous exotic on the other hand. The paper will give examples for documents, pictures e.a. of different parts of the world and discuss the extraordinary presentations of foreign countries and creatures.
