Abstract

The Carolingian World reflected the reach and ambitions of its rulers and thinkers who imagined their unique place in history and the world. The extent to which the majority of people living under Carolingian rule and influence experienced a Carolingian world is less clear. These papers will explore the degree to which the elite and the non-elite shared certain practices and ideas that concerned them all - access to justice, use of coins, and moral priestly leadership - in order to answer the question of what it meant to live in the Carolingian World.
