Abstract

Leeds University Library is embarking on a project to digitize and describe approximately 700 images from the medieval illuminated manuscripts in its care. It is anticipated that a prototype of the resulting website will be available by the date of the Congress, and this workshop provides an opportunity to hear about and discuss principles of selection, the proposed web interface, and technical aspects of the digitization work. The images selected include all miniatures, historiated initials, and borders, as well as examples of decorated initials and borders, and of text. In all cases, the complete manuscript page is being digitized.
