Abstract

This session forms the second and final part of a series presenting current research on medievalism and antiquarianism in Finland and the eastern Baltic area. All the papers deal with modern historiography and the discovery, construction, and even invention of a useful medieval society and imagery in the region. The second session focuses in particular on archaeological issues and how various modern considerations and presuppositions have influenced both public and scientific views of medieval Finland and Estonia. The papers are all related to forthcoming dissertations.
