Abstract

This session will deal with the new ways through which the cult of ancient martyrs were promoted during the Middle Ages. Some of them had their relics rediscovered and/or translated, others had their lives rewritten. Sometimes, new legendary narrative texts were forged in order to pay honour to martyrs so long completely unknown. We shall try to find out the different reasons why this cults were renewed.
