Abstract

Since April 2009 a research project at the University of Hamburg, funded by the ERC (Advanced Grant), has been investigating the medieval (Christian) perceptions of other religions. In two sections the members of this research group would like to present some of their results focusing on two questions concerning the knowledge of the other peoples' religions: 1. What did Christians know about other religions (and how far did they comprehend them)? 2. How are the other religions assessed?
While each member of the group tackles these questions with regard to a certain religion, a comparative approach will allow general conclusions.
