Abstract

With the fragmentation of old grand narratives of secularisation, there is a renewed focus on the transformation of religion and religious identities in the Middle Ages: besides a growing recognition of the historical flexibility of concepts and practices of religion, various institutional histories are being re-thought with a strong focus on the re-negotiation of boundaries in conflicts and cultural transfer processes. This round table brings together researchers working on different areas of the heterogeneous and disparate field, and aims to encourage discussion about the future of 'medieval religion'.

Participants include Sabrina Corbellini (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen), Hans-Werner Goetz (Universität Hamburg), Sita Steckel (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität, Münster), and David Zbíral (Masaryk University, Brno).
