Abstract

This panel draws together new research and ideas in the area of queenship studies: a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary field. The first paper discusses new approaches to the study of both queenship and monarchy, examining the dynamic of partnership and corporate monarchy. The remaining papers feature new research in the area; the second paper investigates queenly patronage and relations with convents and we conclude with an examination of the relationship between the king, the queen, and the favourite in Late Medieval Europe. Taken together, these papers will provide new insights into not only queenship but a variety of related disciplines including women's and gender history as well as ecclesiastical, political, and royal studies.
