Abstract

Animals and their qualities were frequently used to create or sustain the identity of groups or individuals of medieval society in a positive or negative way. The session will deal with this phenomenon, on the one hand, concerning various aspects of religious life and, on the other hand, with regard to its occurrence in literary evidence.
