Abstract

Building on 2014’s three inter-linked sessions this proposal aims to consider the impact of Paul the Deacon as one of Charlemagne’s 'collected' scholars at the heart of the Carolingian programme of correctio and emendatio. Paul's own contribution during his stay in Francia and his intellectual background and foundations in Italy will allow speakers to discuss and analyse Paul’s impact upon not only the broader contours of the Carolingian programme as it developed in the early 8th-century but also specific commissions that Paul undertook whilst in residence within the palace environment.
