Abstract

The purpose of the ERC Project 'The Latin Talmud and Its Influence on Christian-Jewish Polemic' (LATTAL) is to edit and publish the largest extant collection of Talmudic passages translated from Hebrew into Latin, known as Extractiones de Talmud, which were prepared in Paris during the years 1244-1245, while studying this ground-breaking document in the context of the trial and burning of the Talmud in 1240-1242 and its aftermath. In the first session, our papers will focus on three topics regarding the Talmud and its historical and philological medieval environment, such as the Latin Talmud and anti-Jewish polemic in the 13th century (A. Fidora); the Hebrew sources and Latin tradition of the Extractiones de Talmud in the Hebrew Talmud manuscript of Florence (U. Cecini); and the Hebrew hapax legomena from the Bible in the Latin Talmud (E. Vernet). The LATTAL Project is funded by the European Research Council under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) / ERC Grant agreement no. 613694.
