Abstract

Varying aspects of Cistercians and 'otherness' will be explored in this session: the sartorial differences between Cistercian nuns and other medieval women, the nature of Bernard of Clairvaux's leadership as male-otherness, and 'other Cistercians', namely the little known Master Hildebrand of Himmerod and his unique contribution to Cistercian spirituality.
