Abstract | In this session the different uses of prognostic texts in the Carolingian world will be discussed by presenting three case studies. Different ideas about the nature of these texts exist. Some scholars see them as remnants of pagan practice, while others regard them as part of a Christian intellectual heritage. This session contributes to this debate by investigating three Carolingian manuscripts which contain such texts, but in totally different contexts. |
