Abstract

As part of a group of sessions, these papers explore the wide range of masculinities and masculine characters that we encounter in Old Norse-Icelandic literature, and approach the categories of 'men' and 'masculinity' with the same critical scrutiny that has been brought to the study of women and femininities. These sessions complement the proposed sessions on 'Otherness, Monstrosity and Deviation in Old Norse Literature and Culture', and bolster the increasingly prominent Old Norse presence at the IMC. This session, session 3 of 3, explores the intersections between masculinities and power in Old Norse texts.
