Abstract | The interrogation of depictions of various sorts of 'otherness' has been central to scholarship on Late Antiquity. These sessions seek new approaches to some of these 'significant others'. The second panel considers Christians marginalised by the efforts of authority figures to define orthodox doctrine and appropriate ascetic praxis. Individual papers explore the complex heresiological manoeuvres at the Council of Aquileia, the marginal position of committed Christian officeholders in late-antique ecclesiology, and polemic against mixed-gender monastic cohabitation in the Latin West. |
