| Abstract | Thanks to the patronage of The Polonsky Foundation, the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the British Library started a partnership aiming at cataloguing, digitising, and showcasing a corpus of 800 illuminated manuscripts, produced in France or England between the 8th and 12th centuries. In this session of the Leeds IMC, we would like to explore some aspects of the exchanges between the two sides of the Channel. The first paper will focus on the construction of memory through liturgy, calendars, and feasts of saints. Then, the second paper will explore the memory and transmission of Classical authors through decorative elements in the manuscripts, from the 8th to the 12th century. Finally, the third paper will outline the uses of diagrams in the transmission of knowledge. |
