Abstract	Conflicts between merchants and mariners regularly had to be resolved not only over considerable geographical distances, but also by crossing legal boundaries. Most towns either adminstered their own local rules, or they were subject to separate urban and maritime laws which covered a larger area. This session aims to illuminate who managed the conflicts between the burghers of different cities and which strategies the parties involved could resort to. How did borders and boundaries - legal, political, geographical - influence their choices and actions, and how were problems resolved when people from different jurisdictions were involved?
