Abstract | The session series addresses the importance of the study of weather and climate for the history of late medieval Europe. This session discusses the societal and economic impacts of weather and changing climatic conditions, focusing on the 15th century. Theoretical concepts of the entanglement of climate and society are part of the papers as well as local perspectives of climate-related subsistence crises and particular goods. Special attention is paid to Livonia, Central and Eastern Europe, Western Switzerland and to wax, salt, and grain prices. The results are part of an up-coming edited volume on the climate of the 15th century. |
