Abstract | This three paper session will focus on the Icelandic rímur tradition, as a tradition standing at the borders of orality and litaracy. The papers in the session will explore how the material preserved in rímur form tends to flow between mediums, from prose to poetry and back, how rímur were transmitted and preserved in oral tradition, how performative features and styles have set its mark upon the tradition, and in what way language use in sorcerous rímur augment their effectiveness. |
