Abstract | The third panel in the strand of three panels organised by the Northern Network for the Study of the Crusades focuses on frontier relationships in Outremer. Maria S. Thomas will give the first paper, which will focus on the relationship between the Franks and the cultural groups they came in contact with between 1100 and 1200. The second paper, from Amel Bensalim, examines frontier relationships between the Latin Christians and the Mamluks by exploring the management of shared 'Munāṣafāt' lands. The final paper, to be delivered by Angus Stewart, pushes beyond Outremer to the East and investigates the role of the fortresses maintained by the Mamluk sultans of Cairo on the northern Syrian frontier. |
