Abstract

This is the second part of the two-part 'Alfredian Voices' session, which aims to bring together scholars working on any aspect of Alfredian literature. 'Alfredian mentalities' explores the presentation of the mind and heart in the translations associated with Alfred. The papers in this session consider how these translations navigate the philosophy, psychology, and theology of their Late Antique source texts, and the session aims to draw attention to the striking departures and adaptations made by the Old English prose translations, in their efforts to articulate the nature and processes of the inner self.
