| Abstract | This panel aims to explore Byzantine Christian interactions with the Muslim world, which are both themselves products of the shifting frontiers of the Late Antique world. The first paper looks at theological dialogues between Christians and Muslims in the cosmopolitanism of the early medieval and Iberian Peninsula through disputatio literature. The second paper explores the creation and manipulation of regional and religious identities along the border of Cilicia. Finally, the third paper considers the military border in Anatolia in the aftermath of the first wave of Arab expansion and the ongoing political and cultural effects on the various populations of the region. |
