Abstract

This four-paper panel examines medieval English elites' relationships with their surroundings, through various lenses: from elite writings on the relationship between humans and other animals in the Middle Ages, to how religious institutions and individual clerics interacted with the royal forest during the reign of Henry III, to how the last Warenne earls of Surrey managed their estate and household, and concluding with an examination of modern interactions with elite medieval residences.
