| Abstract | This panel will discuss the importance of borders and their impact on court politics of the Western Roman Empire during Late Antiquity. Jeroen Wijnendaele's paper will examine how post-Imperial regna emerged in during the 5th century among many of the cultures of the Western Roman Empire. Carey Fleiner's paper analyses the desire to cross both physical and intellectual borders in the poetry of Ermoldus Nigellus and its presentation of Frankish urban customs during the reign of Louis the Pious. Alice van den Bosch's paper will discuss politically-motivated delegitimisation of martyrs within the context of Late Antique legal proceedings. |
