Abstract | This session will explore the shaping effect of sound during social and religious rituals. Vincent Debiais will study the two possible voices of angels, exploring their in-between position in Western medieval art and liturgy. Marie-Emmanuelle Torres will address the construction of an aural taxis during Byzantine ritual, through the choice of specific voices and sounds. Martine Clouzot will observe the figuration of sound performances in the Books of Hours to analyse the different listening experiences. This session will focus on the impact of sound in social experience. |
