Abstract | This first panel of proposed papers will explore and pose questions regarding the idea of borderlands as cross-cultural physical spaces, mutable identities, and interconnecting historiographical methodologies. From the reorganization and transition of Northumbrian bishoprics in the 7th century and their embodiment mutable identities and shifting dynastic allegiances, the session pivots to investigating the gendering and identities of intersex people in medieval Islam, concluding with an examination of the identity and supposed viciousness, as well as the 'Frenchness' or otherwise, of Isabella Capet, 'She-Wolf' of France. |
