Abstract

In this session, we will examine both Christian representations of Jews and the Beta Israel's own construction of identity of sacred and political space in late medieval and early modern Ethiopia. We will carefully consider how these constructions of self and other shaped encounters between Beta Israel and Christians both in the context of religious encounters and political interactions.
