Abstract

This panel investigates the various struggles for power that the papacy was involved in throughout the Middle Ages. Paper 1 traces the use of the Roman Provincial in papal politics on an European scale. Paper 2 explores the dynamics of the relations between the papal curia and clerics in minor orders. Finally, Paper 3 investigates the rhetoric of schism used by popes and anti-popes.
