| Abstract | This session explores various aspects of religious life and its impact on the Medieval Northern Adriatic. In accordance with the specific strand of borders and boundaries, the proposed papers will each analyse a particular topic, such as: Were there any boundaries between different artistic influences in the artisanship of the late medieval wooden sculpture and to what extent have they defined the woodcarving production in the North Adriatic? How were the local cults in the Medieval North Adriatic described in hagiographic texts as a symbolic embodiment of Venetian overseas popular policy ('Serenissima' as the protectress of the Adriatic Sea)? What message did the wooden effigies try to convey during the funeral procession? |
