Abstract

The sway of Queen Isabel I in the cultural course of the last decades of the 15th century has been established beyond doubt by numerous studies. However, the nature of her influence and the queen's specific role in shaping the literary sphere have been the object of much debate. Aspects such as the continuity or rupture of Isabel's interests in relation to her Trastamaran predecessors, the emergence of new networks of patronage, the increase of female readers, and the overall interaction between female leadership and literary production, which still mystify scholars, are the object of this panel.
