Abstract

To what extent do the activities of antiquarians and archivists conceal and / or enable the process of, and potential for, discovery? How do digital approaches to complex archival collections unlock or obscure access? Can we draw out new methodologies and approaches to unsorted or 'miscellaneous' collections, which allow us to further examine the mechanics of late medieval administrations? This session will allow presenters to discuss examples from their own research and to revisit previous discoveries within the established historiography of their field to reflect on the legacy of documentary research in altering that historiography and forging new directions or understanding.
