Abstract

Ireland in the late Middle Ages was largely fractured, both politically and culturally, but the island's ecclesiastical and economic networks continued to develop and flourish; crossing internal borders as well as reaching out into Europe and beyond. This session will delve into such networks, exploring secular and ecclesiastical facilitation of international pilgrimage, communications, and networks of ecclesiastical exchange among the rectors and vicars of the parish churches of the north, and transnational manorial networks of the south and east.
