This session is part of a four session strand on Dynasty and Court Culture in Byzantium and the Near East. This session focuses on court texts. Martijn Icks examines the late antique courts of Arcadius and Honorius through the works of Claudian. Margaret Mullet considers Byzantine advice literature through the example of the Muses of Alexios I Komnenos, analysing parent-child relationships. Emma Huig focuses on court poetry of the 12th century.
