Abstract

The three case studies in this session engage with the sometimes complex interactions between the materiality of manuscripts and the process of (re)composition of a text or compilation. Mereminskiy examines the compilation of Oxford, All Souls College, MS. 36 and situates it in the context of 12th-century historical writing, especially in Durham and some other related centres. Ladefoged approaches the manuscript used for the editio princeps of the 'Scanian Law' as a case study to advocate for the importance of material philology approaches. Battista analyses the peculiar Icelandic collection of glosses in ms. GKS 1812 4to, investigating potential connections with Latin counterparts.
