Abstract | The aim of this session is to untangle the complex world of monastic documentary conservation practices over the centuries. In fact, the total or partial absence of inventories and catalogues of the archives of monastic institutions, 'born' in Portugal in the Middle Ages and extinct by the 19th Century, forces us to seek alternative ways to reconstruct those archives and thus understand the mental entanglement behind different forms of archival organization and document preservation or even destruction practices. To this end, we will focus our attention on two monasteries in northern Portugal: S. Salvador de Grijó and Santo André Rendufe. Paper -b is co-authored by Luís Carlos Amaral (Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar 'Cultura, Espaço e Memória' (CITCEM), Faculdade de Letras, Universidade do Porto) |
