Abstract

This session explores a variety of intellectual networks that formed around the Irish Sea during the early medieval period. The first paper examines the learned network of King Aldfrith, which encompassed both Gaelic- and Old English- speaking connections. Paper two focuses on the practical side of Irish Sea networks by examining the details of multilingualism in the early period, and our final paper examines legal education and knowledge networks via a case study of the compilation of late medieval Irish 'digests'.
