Abstract | 15th-century London saw a monumental shift in the way laypeople regarded their spiritual development. With a populace increasingly clamouring for diverse religious texts that could be tailored to readers' specific needs, the Guildhall Library provided a locus for the production of the complex devotional volumes required to meet the public's demands. Sponsored by the Leverhulme-funded project 'Whittington's Gift: Reconstructing the Lost Common Library of London's Guildhall', this session explores networks of patrons, scholars, and book producers who played pivotal roles in revolutionising London's religious book scene. |
