Abstract | The Later Roman Empire is characterized by a multitude of interconnected domains that were controlled and governed by powerful decision makers. Their actions oriented towards the preservation of Rome's reign were influenced by their political, cultural, and social environments. This panel presents four examples of such individuals. In doing so, it will show how these leaders interacted with their peers and how their local networks mirrored and reacted to developments in the empire. The panel's presentations will also examine how the chosen decision makers acted as translators of policies, military strategies, cultural concepts, and economic plans between centre and peripheries. |
