Abstract

The second session in De Re Militari's strand on Byzantine warfare continues to address the IMC's theme of 'networks and entanglements', focusing on how interactions between the Byzantine Empire and others led to shared influences in a military sphere. The three papers, covering the entire chronological span of the empire, discuss the specific results of such influences, and their manifestation in the Byzantine military machine, ranging from cavalry methods and equipment, to tactics and strategy, to armor and other military garments and weapons.
