Abstract

This is the second of a three-session series intended to investigate how entanglements among medieval artworks channelled existing social networks within communities, e.g., monastic orders and political environments, for the creation of a new shared history that transcends differences. This session focuses on medieval religious communities. Paper -a reassesses the circulation of mosaic techniques in cathedral and monastic milieus. Paper-b examines the illumination of early manuscripts of the Decretum Gratiani in monastic scriptoria. Paper -c deals with the circulations of illuminated legal manuscripts within religious communities in southern Europe.
