Abstract

This session is part of Networking Medieval Monarchy strand. Networking Medieval Monarchy I focuses on the networks of queens and royal women. Particularly focus is given to medieval Portugal, in papers which examine the diplomatic networks of its queens and the familial and political networks of its princesses, both within and beyond the borders of the realm. A comparative perspective is offered by a study of the familial networks of Adelaide of Maurenne in 12th century France, through an examination of her charters. Taken together, these papers will illuminate the ways in which royal women exerted influence and agency across the networks they were born into and created.
