Abstract

The second of the sessions on the materiality of manuscripts puts the structure and composition of manuscripts at its centre. Considering the complex nature of the medieval manuscript production, Yavuz examines codices with in situ fragments. Focusing on a composite volume made up of various textual and codicological units, Hansen and Dunker discusses its composition and possible uses. Using examples of German and English genealogical rolls, Kuhn addresses the interconnectedness of material, form, design, and content. Ryley explores medieval books made from a mix of substrate to understand the processes that went into the production of mixed codices.
