Abstract

Re-Evaluating the 11th Century (RELEVEN) explores networks, interactions, and connections between people and ideas across cultures and polities in the 11th-century Eastern Christian world. The session focuses on one of the key strands of our research: the movement of individuals. The analysis of geographical mobility deepens our understanding of the connectivity between different regions of Europe. The three papers in this session approach the subject from more specific points of view such as the connection between mobility and political power, and patronage of culture and travels.
