Abstract

The session will deal with the formation of new (and a new function of the traditional) institutions in the late medieval cities in Central Europe and their involvement in strengthening the social disciplination. The main focus will be placed on expanding the boundaries of the controlled area, finding new tools and ways of communication. The attention of the speakers will be paid to the activities of so called 'Viertelmeister', parishes, and guilds. It turns out that the political institutions associated with controlling the city councils within the changed distribution of power they themselves became those that sought to limit or at least to control the space of action of city inhabitants.
