Call for Your Memories: Community Codex
The special thematic strand for IMC 2027 will be ‘Communities’. As part of our activities for the upcoming year, we invite all IMC delegates, past and present, to take part in our Community Codex – a bespoke book created for and by the IMC community. The community codex will give you a chance to share your IMC memories, pictures, and notes, turning your conference ephemera into a lasting legacy as these pages are bound together.
This project is led by Linette Withers of Anachronalia, a heritage bookbinder and long-term member of the IMC community. The project will span a full year and culminate in the presentation of the completed book for IMC 2027, but we will be posting updates on the project throughout the year.

An example submission - a collage of slides from an academic paper and memories of IMC!
How can you get involved?
We need your help to create the pages of the codex. Become part of the project by either donating or creating ephemera for inclusion.
- Submit a PDF online from July 2026 until 30 April 2027.
- Submit or create physical copies with Anachronalia at IMC 2026 (Tuesday 07 July 2026, 12.00-17.00 in the Refectory Foyer).
We are looking for A4 images, text, or collages inspired by the IMC or created by you as part of your involvement with the IMC. One A4 submission will create two A5 pages. You can submit sections of research (think reused manuscript pages rebound into covers rather than just giving us a paper), notes, doodles you have made during talks, or posters you’ve created as part of your work.
Physical pages and items such as posters will need to be landscape A4 short grain paper for binding (Anachronalia can provide guidance on what might be suitable). Larger physical submissions can be accepted but will be trimmed before binding.
Format: A4 Landscape, which will create two A5 pages, which will be gathered into quires before being bound together. Depending upon the method of submission (and binding), it may not be possible for these pages to be adjacent to one another. Larger submissions may be trimmed to fit the page. Physical copies can be double sided.
All materials will be vetted before inclusion in the project. While all efforts will be made to include as many of the submissions as we can, there is no guarantee that any single submission will be included, whether for reasons of space, content, or suitability within the binding.
What we would love to see:
- Memories from past Congress events, written or images.
- Project summary collages of projects that have grown out of meetings at the IMC.
- Artworks inspired by your time at the IMC.
- Poetry, prose, notes, or mind maps.
What we can’t include:
- Any copyrighted materials or images for which you do not hold the rights.
- Anything that might be considered offensive – including but not limited to hate speech or overly explicit materials (where not appropriate).
- Anything that has no connection with the International Medieval Congress. e.g. materials connected to projects that have never been presented at the IMC.
