Abstract

As a second christian initiation, ascetic or monastic experience would suppose a long training, at the end of which sanctity would be come possible. Nevertheless, theories about the grace of God imply a kind of predestination to sanctity, which needs to come to light from childhood. How much this question was risen in the Byzantine world will be the subject of this session centring on the ages of life in byzantine monasticism and hagiography.
